meet Hannelore, friend and inspiration behind our first wallet

Lies dedicated the design of one of her first wallets to Hannelore, a lifelong friend and the person she can turn to with all her ideas and struggles.

Hannelore Veelaert is a freelance interior photographer and social media consultant. As an architecture student, she already showed a strong interest in photography and interior magazines, but it's only after her studies that she realised she'd rather work as an interior photographer than designing the buildings and spaces herself.

Lies dedicated the design of one of her first wallets to Hannelore, a lifelong friend and the person she can turn to with all her ideas and struggles. To celebrate the launch of our accessories collection, we asked Hannelore to create 3 different settings with her favourite interior objects and - of course - our wallets.

“I’m inspired by magazines that include fashion, travel and interior design. It’s important to me that they show a bigger picture, rather than just reporting the latest trends.” Hannelore values a holistic approach, also in terms of her personal style. “To me, my interior is part of my lifestyle. I love minimalist interiors, which are often defined as a sleek and empty space. I disagree with that view: in my opinion, a minimalist interior should generate a feeling of peacefulness. This works for me by choosing objects with an appealing aesthetic, even if they fulfil just a functional purpose. “I take my quest for aesthetics pretty serious, both in furniture and clothing. When I have the idea of the perfect white shirt, I will keep looking for it until I find something that fully meets my expectations. Always having very specific requirements, I prefer to shop online and enjoy the vast choices.”

Harmony is an important concept in Hannelore’s house, and that includes her wardrobe. “You will often see me wearing rather classical designs, in a limited amount of colours. It’s very important to me that clothes fit properly and I often visit the dressmaker for tailor-made garments.”

Hannelore already owns five designs from Lies Mertens, which match her composed style. “I have Joke in the colour sky, Lies in ivory and CMMC, CMMC Mini and Enya, all in black. Enya has especially been a lifesaver, as I like to bike to clients when shooting in Antwerp. I only need to take this bag with me, which can perfectly carry all my camera supplies.”

"And now also Hannelore! I couldn't be any happier with the design, especially since I've never really found a wallet that could answer to all my needs. And the fact that it exists out of 2 different parts makes it so easy. The large part is perfect for all my cards, receipts & cash, and the slip pocket in the back even fits my phone, so I can perfectly use it as a clutch too. When I'm using a smaller bag or don't need my entire wallet, I just take out the small cardholder and use it as my wallet instead."
