A glimpse into our Antwerp atelier

A glimpse into our Antwerp atelier

The process behind each bag starts in our Antwerp atelier. Ideas often begin with research into a shape, material or way of carrying. From there, we work directly with paper, canvas or leather, making simple prototypes to understand proportion, volume and use.

How a bag is carried is considered from the beginning. Straps are moved, lengths change, compartments are added or removed, and constructions are tested in different ways. Some designs develop into several carrying options; others become simpler as the process continues.

Once the shape starts to feel right, we make a first version in leather or in the final material. This changes the object again. Leather has its own weight, movement and resistance, and details that work on paper do not necessarily behave in the same way in the final material.

The prototype then becomes a sample, developed further with one of our production ateliers. Patterns, tests and construction details travel back and forth between Antwerp and the ateliers, followed by new prototypes that we review and adjust. This can take several rounds. Some designs are resolved within months, while others remain in development for much longer.
