On working with leather: a visit to Richard Hoffmans

Since the early days of the brand, we’ve collaborated with Richard Hoffmans, a German tannery known for its transparency and consistent quality. Each hide is fully traceable, from origin to finish. Hoffmans is Gold-rated by the Leather Working Group and certified by ECO₂L for energy-efficient processes.

We visit the tannery regularly. To explore new tones, assess suppleness, and fine-tune details. It’s a slow and tactile process – shaped by dialogue, experience, and the material itself.

The leather we use is full grain: the uppermost layer of the hide, left intact. No sanding, buffing or artificial correction. Protection is integrated during tanning, not applied as a plastic topcoat. Natural markings, scars, creases, variations, remain visible. They reflect the life of the animal and make each piece unique.

Full grain leather is a living material. It softens over time, develops patina, and retains its depth, unlike corrected or coated alternatives.
