The Forest

The Forest

With this collection, we move from the sea into the forest, taking inspiration from its wonders, colours and structures.

Back in 2021, Mexican poet María Baranda wrote a poem on the wildfires in the forests of Mexico. During our research for the collection, we came across her poem, published in Atmos. Its opening words “The sea looks at the forest. The forest has no sea.” caught our eye as it was the process we were in.  And we asked Maria Baranda to write a poem for us.

The Forest will unfold in three parts, accompanied by her words.

Part I - Moss

The sea looks at the forest.
The forest has no sea.

In the forest, there are mosses awakened at dawn.

They are a desire and a distraction,
a stain upon the silence.

Do not speak
of them.

Do not look
at them.

The mosses slake their thirst on a single drop of water.
Water is the skin that covers them in their wandering.

Where shells opened up a space for curiosity and play, the forest draws us inward: into layers, textures, colours and forms. It became a place to experiment through materials and texture.
